Katouna is built on a hill, between Akarnanic Mountains and in an altitude of 350 m.
Nowadays, in katouna, we can admire the beautiful temple of Saint Athanasios in the central square and Saint Paraskevi in the bottom of the village.
Also ,in the square you can see the wonderful view where you can look the Ambrakikos bay in Loutraki and the mountain Velora and Petalas.
{Ancient Medeon}
Ancient Medeon was one of the oldest cities of Akarnania which is considered to be built before Trojan War. In addition to that Medeon had cultural and spiritual development ,this seems to be a reality by two significant personalities of this century whose name is Fillipos Akarnan and Lysimachos Akarnan.
The etymology of the word Medeon derives from the verb {μεδοιωνίζω} which means {dominate,prevail,reign,protect}. Also,during Peloponnesian war Medeon was always ally with Athens and about 350-300 B.C. Medeon cut its coins with the form of goddess Athena and Hermes.
{Fillipos Akarnan}
Fillipos descended from Medeon and he was the private doctor of Great Alexander during his military campaign in Asia. Alexander was so trustful to Fillipos that when Parmenion had written a letter to Alexander ,with which he said that Fillipos would poison him , Alexander didn't believe that and he drank the medicine in front of Fillipos , while he was showing him the Parmenion's letter and fortunately Great Alexander lived.
{Lysimahos Akarnan}
He was the educationist and the friend of Great Alexander in his early years who came from Medeon .He inspired him love for Homeric epics. Νάκου Ερασμία Σταφυλά Αγλαϊα
