The Panakarnaneia, as indicated by their name, is the most important holiday of the whole culture of Acarnania. Organized every year in Amfilochia, for about a week, between July and August.
Cultural and folklore events include music nights and concerts, theatrical performances, traditional dances from parts of cultural associations in the region and recently even gymnastics demonstrations by the club of the city. Besides the undeniable cultural significance, these events highlight and natural wealth of the region, with theatrical performances to "climb" in the citadel of ancient Limnaia and concerts in coastal scenery overlooking the illuminated summer Amfilohia.
The most special, but night for Panakarnaneia is the night of the "barcarolle". In earlier years the troubadours of Amfilochias not going down from the balconies of the houses to sing their sexual purposes, as was the case in other parts of Greece, but wander with boats beach and flooded the serene waters of Amvrakikos and hearts of their sexual thinking with the intoxicating love melodies. Times have changed and they do not occur anymore, at least spontaneously. In recent years the custom of barcarolle revived within the Panakarnaneion. So one evening events dedicated each year to barcarolle. Musicians and ordinary citizens across the beach Amfilochias in boats and again sing those unforgettable songs Serenaders, the city lights are extinguished and all but all who are in Amfilohia that night watching and hummed along with the Serenaders, creating images and emotions other seasons.
